Most of us are trying different diets and exercises to lose weight. And believe me, even if the results are not visible after long, they will still try the same plan, until the cows come home! Many people think skipping meals is a good way to lose extra pounds. However, that is a big mistake. Skipping meals affects your metabolism and will actually slow down your weight loss! I recommend that you start your day by making breakfast your biggest and healthiest mea. Then continue by eating a small lunch with a slightly bigger dinner. Finally, I encourage everyone to use meal replacement shakes midday or late-evening in rotation with veggies and salads.

Don’t keep it a secret. If you admit to a friend or family member that you are trying to lose weight in a week, it’s likely they won’t believe you are going to do it. What better motivation for proving them wrong? Also do you want to have to face up to them and tell them that you failed? Things like that can be great motivators, and bear in mind, motivation is exactly what you need to get you really working out hard and watching your diet!

Separate your 3 larger meals into 5 smaller-portion meals and then take your breakfast around 7 – 8 A.M., lunch at about 12 – 1 P.M. and dinner at 6 – 7 P.M. And in between those meals slot in 2 light snacks like oatmeal or wholegrain bread or other healthy snacks. Again, no junk food.

I don’t know how to stress the importance of proper sleep. What I can say is, you will not lose weight unless you have at least 6 hours of undisturbed and uninterrupted sleep. Sleep is the only time when our body rejuvenates and repairs. Also only during this time that our body assimilates all the food and converts into energy.

What many people do not realize is that excessive weight gain is the result of intake of calories in a greater amount than what is required by our body. An unhealthy diet containing mostly processed and fried foods can be held responsible for weight gain in a great majority of people. So, for losing weight it is crucial to determine the level of calories required by our body. Also important is to have five to six frequent but small meals instead of three heavy meals. Fresh fruit and vegetables are low in calorie and high in fiber and antioxidants. Avoid packaged and fried foods and replace them with fresh green vegetables and fruits. Another important fact about these unhealthy packaged foods is that they contain a large amount of sodium and harmful fats, which are not good for your heart.

Workout smarter. Don’t waste your time with long, boring hours of cardio and with ineffective exercises. Weight training and cardio interval training is best for weight loss.
