If you are looking to practice Bikram yoga please, let me tell you something more about the roots of Bikram yoga. Yogiraj Bikram Choudhury was born in Calcutta on 1946 and at the age of 4, he started practicing yoga. He practiced Yoga four to six hours every day at Ghosh’s College of Physical Education.

Bikram’s Beginning Yoga Class runs approximately 90 minutes, incorporates a series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises, and is ideally practiced in a room heated to 105°F (40.5°C) with a humidity of 40%. Make sure to drink plenty of water before and after class so you don’t get dehydrated. It is not advisable to eat during the two hours before class. Bikram yoga works by the tourniquet effect: stretching, balancing (using gravity), and creating pressure all at the same time. The blood supply in arteries and veins is being cut off, creating pressure. When released, a lock gate effect is created, causing blood to rush through veins and arteries, flushing them out. Also, pressure is applied to the heart by its relative position to the rest of the body.

Bikram yoga aim is toward general wellness and claims the heated studio facilitates deeper stretching, injury prevention, and stress and tension relief. Bikram yoga is claimed to systematically stimulate and restore health to every muscle, joint, and organ of the body.

If you are going to practice yoga wear loose, comfortable clothing. A T-shirt and shorts might be just the ideal attire. It is best if you are barefoot while you perform your yoga session, as this will enable your feet to have the most secure contact with the floor in standing positions. If you would like to experiment with using props, you can have accessories ready to help you. These could include a yoga belt or rope to help you in some of the stretching poses and a small woodenor foam block, or a strong and sturdy straight-backed chair or table to help support you in some of the balancing poses. You may also find it handy to have a blanket nearby to place over yourself in the final relaxation pose, as you may find that your body feels cooler when you assume the final resting pose at the end of this yoga session.

Prior finding any certified Bikram yoga instructor consider watching any bikram yoga dvd or redaing any book on this subject because once you are familiar with it, and you decide to go further you will have any basic knowledge and you will feel much more comfortable in group practicing.
