K. Pattabhi Jois was the originator who introduced asthanga yogaa special form that is also widely recognized as the Eight Limb Yoga which believes that the pathway of purification lies in eight spiritual exercises. The Pranayama, Yama, Asana and Niyama are the initial four limbs that cleanse the external part while Dhyana, Pratyahara and Dharana are the internal exercises which should be applied in an appropriate manner.

When practicing the Eight Limb yoga along with the necessary sub limbs for external exercises like Yama and Niyama the body has to be really strong so that it is capable of performing the training. If the mind is not working properly and the body is found to be weak then performing the exercises would not be beneficial at all to the individual.
